Third advent drabble (LotR)
Number three in my advent drabbles sequence. This one's set post-Council of Elrond, pre-Fellowship departure, and it's a period I might return to during the drabbling.
Title: By the fire

Summary: A quiet moment in Rivendell, before the departure of the Fellowship.
By the fire
The fire was burning strongly in the grate, and the room was warm and cosy. Frodo looked up from his book and smiled to see Bilbo, snoring away with his head lolling against the back of his chair. Close by, Sam was reading softly to himself, running his finger along the lines of elegant text in the book of poetry from Elrond's library.
It all seemed so peaceful, so normal - they might almost be in the Shire. But round his neck the Ring hung heavy, a reminder that one day soon they would have to leave Rivendell behind - probably forever.
