Big spoilers in this for "Silence in the Library" - and every chance this will be thoroughly Jossed by Saturday's episode. What the heck, I can speculate.
Very nice!! I like this view from River's perspective. LOVELY! I can't wait to...watch the next ep on YouTube cuz I'm in the US and our SciFi channel is about 3-4 eps behind. DOH! Tee hee.
Because I think he is a liar - he lies to everyone, constantly, including himself.
Yes, exactly. But I also like how you understand his dishonesty--it's almost always aimed at protecting someone (or himself)--and, as you write, he wouldn't be himself if he was scrupulously honest.
Mmm. Particularly in this episode - he lies to Donna three times, I think (once about the psychic paper, once rather unsuccessfully about the helmets, and once about the teleports) and each time it's because he think it's best for her. Wrong, wrong, wrong, of course, but he's not being malicious or anything. Notably, though, he doesn't lie so much to people he doesn't know; so he doesn't lie to River at any point (I think), doesn't even try and pretend he knows her. Complicated bloke, the Doctor.

Interesting that you've gone with the same idea that I have (on occasion) gone with - ie. Ten not having a regular travelling companion...

She’s learned over the years that the Doctor, for all his charm and energy and intelligence, is an inveterate liar.
YES. She sees him so clearly. I'm really interested to learn more about her character as well.
