I’ve been in Melbourne for close to 3 months already and I think I’m beginning to feel quite settled at my new place and work. So much so that I’ve been looking around for things I can volunteer for with my spare time.

I’ve had a phone interview last week and signed a police record check form yesterday. So I should be spending my Saturdays helping out at a disability centre at Glen Waverley starting from early July. I think the job will be much the same thing as what I did at Baulkham Hills…help organising activities like arts and craft, take the service users out to lunch and bowling…etc

Another thing I’ve been looking at doing is volunteering at a mental health clinic. I think the challenge there will be a lot different from working at a disability centre. There are a few pages of form I will have to fill out, and I never quite know what to write as a respond to questions like “Why do you want to be a PALS volunteer?” and “Do you have any special interests or skills you could offer the program as a volunteer?” without making myself cringe.

Anyway, my main plan for this long weekend is to take my bike and do the 32km Capital City Trail http://www.bv.com.au/inform.php?a=5&b=27&c=352

So if any Melbournites spots a crazy man huffing and puffing on a sandy coloured mountain bike around the Melbourne city area, be sure to wave!
