I've read a few Iraq GI based news clips, and I came across a startling figure. Out of around 100,000 returning vets from Iraq, 1 in 4 of them have mental illness from exposure to the war. 25%. That's 25,000 men and women. Out of that figure, half of the ill soldiers carry two or more disorders.
I saw another article where a GI came back to marry his girlfriend. This is supposed to be one of the happiest times of someone's life, but she's sitting there, straight faced and morose. Why? When you look to her right, she's standing beside her sweetie... WHO HAS NO FACE. His face is a mishmash of flesh and stitches. He doesn't even look like a person, and now he has to deal with that for the rest of his life, and what's going to happen to his marriage to his sweetheart?
Bring the GIs home and bring them home now.
Ask not what they are doing for your country, ask what your country is doing to them.
