Well I would suggest donating it to a children's hospital or the Salvation Army but it is a gift from your friend- supposedly given with sincerity- so...I suppose the polite thing to do would be to keep it.

As for where to put it... you could set him aside in the living room as something for guests to sit on? A potential conversational piece?
