To celebrate mum's birthday, had dinner at the China Bar buffet.
The atmosphere was more upmarket than your usual fish&chips etc. buffet. The dress code banned thongs and male singlets (so I guess female singlets are ok). The glass walls were draped with lines of sparkly lights, creating an artificial starry night. Service was also pretty prompt.
Good food:
- Siu Mai
- Ha gao (prawn dumpling)
- Mussel pie (had a pastry crumb over the top of the shell)
- Peking duck
- Seaweed (tasty)
- Sashimi (is it really ok to eat as much as I want? this stuff is so expensive!)
--- Swordfish
--- Yellowtail
--- Salmon
Not so great food:
- Avocado & prawn salad (just average)
- Cuttlefish (served raw and rubbery - no diagonal lines cut into it.)
- Orange jelly (more like flavoured gelatin)
Worth the $49 for weeknight dinner. I guess the extra price is to cover the peking duck and sashimi, which is only served at dinner.
The variety of food is pretty good - I would recommend the place to others. Just be careful not to take too much rice/oily food at the start.
