Today (Sunday 17th)
Treasury Garden
4-8pm
UPDATE: What a very Japanese time I had.
- Wearing yukata (can I remember how to tie a bow?.... yes I can!)
- I got a red uchiwa fan with 祭 on it! I always wanted one! Hurray! 祭!
- Red bean Daifuku and green tea ice cream
- Sushi burger??? what's that? (like the rice Mos burger?)
- Tanabata bamboo wish trees in February (7/7 anyone?)
- Kendo - no one shouted "Meeeeeeeen~"...
- Origami - folding a giant paper rat on the stage
- Picked up information on JET (CIR) application
- Yukata competition - I can enter! Yay!
- Bon Odori - last round was to "Waltzing Maltilda"?! Well, there's a mixing of cultures for you
- Special surprise: rajio taisou! (The radio tape that kids exercise to.) "Ichi, ni, san! Ichi, ni san!" I heard people doing it say how "natsukashii" (nostalgic) it was.
(Had to leave the festival early to go to a Chinese New Year dinner (there's another change of culture). So I missed out seeing the Souran-bushi! Noo! Oh well, I did a fair amount today, and there's always next year.)
This guy writing for a magazine ("Postcards" it's called apparently) thought Dad was Japanese and tried to interview him. Dad directed him to me, so I tried to answer his question, "What do you like about Japanese Melbourne?", but I couldn't figure out what he wanted me to say. Though we did manage to pimp Manifest and Supernova flyers onto him. Well, the magazine issue comes out in April, so I'll see if I remember to look for it then.
