new semester, Anego, Princess Tutu

Headache... I slept too late and woke up too early. Trying to reset body clock since the new semester starts next week. Uni again...

JAP TEST: Did the J-CAT again and moved up two points - thus, advanced classes!! I made it to lower level 上級!! *sigh* Reading and listening was perfect, but why was my grammar at 9/20?!?!? I picked the same answers as I did last time, does that mean I was somehow misreading the questions? Kuyashii~~ I saw other people got 15 and 19, why is mine below 50%??

ROOM: I've sorted out storing my luggage in my room, buying various bits and pieces, and generally more settled into my room. But what annoys me most is that the room is so COLD. I have the aircon heater on all the time, and it's still so cold. The air, and especially the floor... If there was carpet, it would be much more comfortable (and I could sit on the floor), but then summer is coming soon (feel so Northen Hemisphere-y), so maybe when it gets hot I will be glad to have a cold floor? or will it get HOT? ...thinking of buying tatami mats, but then I couldn't roll my chair around freely (using it as makeshift bedside table :P).

DVDs: I bought a DVD player!! For less than 4000 yen! 劇安い! Always cheapest at Direx :D It's amazing that one can buy a DVD player for so cheap now.

Watched:
Anego (J-Drama) - this drama centers around Noda-san, a 32 year old office worker. She's been working at the office for a long time and always looks out for everyone, so they call her "Anego" (big sister). I think the main themes in this drama is dealing with getter older and figuring out what to do with one's life (eg. she tries to find a marriage partner, take a work qualification test, getting interested in someone 10 years younger than her).

The lead actor is Shinohara Ryouko 篠原涼子, who stars in a similar role in Haken no Hinkaku ハケンの品格 (lit. "Dignity of temp workers"). I watched a few episodes here and it's another interesting drama (because it has Shinohara-san in it <.< hehe)

OMGOSH Shinohara-san has a role in Kamikaze Girls (2004) a.k.a. Shimotsuma story?!? I just watched that the other day! Wow! She was Momoko's mother? I guess that's a relatively minor role.
"There is a sequel to the original Shimotsuma Monogatari novel, titled Shimotsuma Story End - Yanki-chan and Lolita-chan and the Murder Case (下妻物語・完―ヤンキーちゃんとロリータちゃんと殺人事件, Shimotsuma Monogatari Kan - Yankii-chan to Lolita-chan to Satsujinjiken?)"
- Yep, I've read it!
"The movie's soundtracks was composed by Yōko Kanno, more famous for her scores of animé series and movies"
- Isn't that cool? I thought the movie music was pretty good.

I bought the Shimotsuma Monogatari DVD in Kyoto at the Book Off in Sanjo. Whee~~ The cover looks just like in the wikipedia article too.

Princess Tutu (anime)
'A duck (Ahiru) who turns into a girl, who turns into the ballet magical girl, Princess Tutu! Princess Tutu collects the scattered fragments of the prince's heart, and returns them to him. But is he really better off knowing the pain of feeling?'

I've only watched the first 5 eps so far. Much ballet and classical music. This anime reminds me of:
-Utena (a fairy tale/story world where strange things don't seem strange, and the world being manipulated by an outside power)
-Fruit Basket (soft/gentle OP/EN theme, animals, and a girl who heals people's hearts)
-Uta~Kata (ditto Fruit Basket, a secret Magical Girl guiding lost spirits, collecting "feelings")
-Astro Boy (the storyteller is drawn in the same "mad professor" way)
-Key, The Metal Idol (imagery of gears, turning into a real/human girl)
