Birds and Yamaguchi, Going Postal review

Sep 20, 2006 20:09

Bird flu in Yamaguchi Prefecture (2004)... eek. Wonder if I should stay clear of eating chicken.

Nikon - Familiar wild birds in Japan. Very good site for getting started birding in Japan. Also binocular love uses.

- JNTO: Japan National Tourist Organisation - information for travelling, accomodation
- Lonely Planet - I should get one. It was checked out of the library when I went to look though.... $46 what! Should I spend that much money to get a copy, I wonder.

I finished reading Going Postal today. My favourite out of the latest Discworld novels. The premise is sort of like The Truth, but it sets up the Post Office rather than the newspaper. The story is also more gallant. And Chapters! And commentary on big corporations, complete with corporate-speak parodies. And Adora Bell Dearheart, who's more cynical than Vimes and looks good in a severely plain dress. Oh, and don't forget the otaku nerd culture references. I think Vetinari or someone felt vaguely out of character though.

Should really stop procrastinating on LJ...!
