Fan EXPO review

It was a rather enjoyable weekend, overall. qicetrini and I visited the Dealers' Room quite often, where I bought Volume 1 of Trigun to get signed by Nightow (bought Volume 1 of Trigun Maximum and Chrono Crusade the day before to get signed by their respective authors too) and bought Volume 2 of Record of Lodoss Wars: The Grey Witch. I also finally found a copy of Stardust by Neil Gaiman. No Indigo in Ontario had a copy as of last week; as soon as I finish it I will see the movie.

On Friday we were pleasantly surprised to find that our mutual friend Jeremy would be attending the con, and he was very informative as to how to play Guitar Hero II, which to my dismay I failed miserably at. I will have to practice more somehow.

On Saturday I got my books signed by Nightow and Moriyama, which was an absolutely cool experience. Moriyama signed my copy of CC as well as providing me a signed card of his new series (can't recall what the title is at the moment but it looks really good) of which I thanked him, after which Nightow signed my books. By chance I also took thecrazyfinn's copy of Volume 1 of Trigun to be signed as a surprise. I wasn't sure if he would sign it since I have heard that some authors have issues with that but Nightow signed it for me in CF's name, to which I thanked him. He also shook my hand and thanked me in return. ^_^ (cool!)

I also visited a few panels this year, which I usually do not follow due to lack of interest but this year when I participated in a few they were very fun. I will have to make more of an effort to visit panels in the future.

The Saturday eveningmasquerade was, as usual, very entertaining, as it was run by the recurring host gordon-rose, and a cast of very creative and (some) weird/twisted minds of the cosplayers masquerading.

Oddly enough, there didn't seem to be an Anime Music Video contest this year. It wasn't listed in the progam, and all the staff we asked did say there would be one but none of them knew either the day or the time of it. Very odd indeed ...

Sunday I ran into my friend Dave and he told me of his (mis)adventures of his month in Japan, and also caught up in general. I hope I will be able to visit Japan sometime.

This year I brought along my Nikon D50 and took over 200 pictures this year, mostly of cosplayers, and there were many impressive costumes. To my dismay, however, after the convention I discovered that I had my camera on manual focus ALL weekend, hence some of my really good shots turned out quite blurry. A lot still squeaked by as satisfactory however, so I will post those on my Flickr page, and some of the blurry shots anyway since you can tell the subjects of the shots are very cool.

Overall, fun weekend!
