Hello, possums.
I'm back and am trying to re-train my head to turn the right way when stepping into the street.
Reverse culture shock, a very strange phenomenon indeed, is setting in. Things are different here, just as things were different there, but I got used to those things and they became my norm. Please take no offense to the following observations about life here, as they simply are observations, not value judgments:
- in general, people seem to talk at a higher volume level
- prices at the grocery store are noticeably higher, even when allowing for the exchange rate
- the cars are much larger
- there seem to be fewer documentaries on television
- asking for milk with tea is not common
- drivers are not as aware of crosswalks
- the public transport system is not as sophisticated (admittedly, that one's a value judgment)
- free newspapers are more difficult to come by
Anyhow, enough of that. We all know it's different; I'm just trying to settle back in with my fellow countrymen.
In other news, classes begin next Tuesday. I will have Fridays off, which is brilliant, and I'll be taking the following:
1. Theatre management
2. Modern dramatic literature
3. Acting II
4. History of modern Iran
5. The Cold War history colloquium
6. Beginning tap (check it, bitches)
Auditions for the spring season will be in two weeks' time; the shows are:
- Tom Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound
- Terrence McNally's Bad Habits
- Tennessee Williams's Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
The other group is doing West Side Story, and I plan to leave that one to them. They don't need my skinny legs kicking skyward.
It's Tuesday, the tenth of January, and that's all the news that's fit to print from here.
