[RL WITH CHARLE AND JACK]

Mar 16, 2010 18:45

Ianto stood at his coffee machine, setting the beans to grind. It had been a pretty quiet week at the Hub, all things considered. Gwen was out at her parent's because of it--were he someone else, he would be jealous of the amount of free time off she got at this job, but she was his best friend, and there was no resentment there. She deserved to ( Read more... )

Charle, as per usual, had been up for a few hours and was already puttering away with her plants. Humming, she turned at Ianto's greeting and smiled softly in turn.
"Well, a good morning to you too dear," she replied, setting her watering can down to take the tea off his hands. "You're always so sweet."

Ianto smiled politely. He still wasn't used to being called 'dear', exactly, but he was a whole lot closer to accepting it than he had been a while ago, when he'd first met Charle.

"Yes, well," Ianto said, "it's just part of the job. I was already making coffee, but since you don't like it, I feel I should accommodate accordingly, yeah? Wouldn't be fair, not giving you refreshments just because you don't like the kind everyone else does."

"And that doesn't make it any less sweet of you," she countered, bringing the cup close to feel the steam on her face. She looked forward to this little ritual every morning, and always found it amusing how much Ianto refused to be complimented.
Inhaling deeply, her smile gained more warmth as she set her mind to work.
"We're running low on fertilizer, and I'd appreciate it if it could be added to the shopping list sometime soon. Other than that, things have been pretty calm this morning," she finished, nodding once to the terminal she had to share company with in the hothouse. Charle was getting better at passively monitoring things on it, but the workings of metalminds still befuddled her at times.

"I'll make a note of that," Ianto said, filing it away mentally to add to the list of chocolate biscuits for Gwen, bits and pieces from the abattoir for Myfanwy, and more folders for his seemingly endless work in the archives--what people would think if they ever found that list, he didn't want to know, part of the reason that he kept it a mental list in the first place. "Anything else you can think of, while I'm at it? You're stuck in this place the whole time, there must be something else you'd like? Perhaps...a crossword or something?" Ianto suggested, realizing that that might not be a good idea after all, considering the cultural references would probably be beyond her.

"Unless they now bottle sunlight, that will be fine. I have my plants, and things to learn about the metalmind, and the odd non-Earth native to occupy my time with; you need not worry about me," she replied, her smile somewhat wistful. Knowing he would not be reassured, she decided to switch to his favourite topic.
"Is Jack up yet?"

Ianto probably would have resented the fact that she thought Jack was his favorite topic (despite the fact that it was probably true), but what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him. "I, er..." He was about to say that he didn't know, but then he knew quite well. When he'd woken up himself, Jack had already been up and through the shower and out to wander Cardiff, probably to watch the sun rise on the top of some building or other. "Yes, he should probably be back in at any minute now."

As Ianto spoke, the sirens of the cog door and the flashing yellow lights alerted them to Jack's presence. "Ianto!" he called. "Coffee, please? Now?"

Ianto rolled his eyes. "And Himself has spoken," he said, snarkily.
