A Night Out at the Pub

Surprisingly, Jack had insisted on a specific pub they rent out, and Ianto had stepped back and let him do so. Jack knew the owner, had been going there for years (and years and years), and so he could get the place cheap and quickly and still have the quality service that they wanted. And for an occasion like this one, quality was a must

A small crash and Merlin groaned as he stood up. "Ok, need to learn how to land better." He looked around, waving at Sulu and Ianto before looking around at his surroundings. It looked like a tavern. Smelled like one. There were already people here and Merlin kept to the walls, enjoying just being around people who weren't from Camelot.

Ianto watched the other man appear, and went over to see that he was alright. "Gosh," he said, smiling at the other man. "That was quite an entrance there, Merlin. I hope the place wasn't too hard to find." However he'd gotten there, that was.

He dusted himself off and smiled at Ianto. "No worries. It isn't the worst injury I'll ever see. Sorry I'm a bit late. Arthur kept adding more and more chores as the day wore on." He looked around. "Are all these people from the community?"

Ianto looked around and nodded. "Yeah," he said, with a smile, "they are. All attached to the community in some way or another. You should go and say hello to them, if you like. They're all really very nice people."

[merlinastrice]

"I think I'll wait a bit before doing so." Merlin smiled. "Oh, is this all right? I used my cleanest tunic for tonight." He peeked over at the bar. "Do...they still serve ales and meads in the future?"

Ianto nodded at the other man. "I'm not sure that they'll be exactly the same that you remember them tasting like. The brewing process has been a little altered, since your time, what with added technology and everything else. But Wales is definitely a place that still appreciates its ales, so." He motioned to the bar. "Would you care for something to drink then, Merlin?"

"I think I'll wait a bit, thank you." Worry showed on his face. "What do I talk to everyone about...? I mean, if there are centuries separating me and you..."

Ianto shrugged. "Talk about anything you like. I'm sure that everyone else here is just as much interested in the way life is for you where you come from as you are about the way life is for them when they're from, so. Really, don't hesitate to strike up a conversation. We're all friends, here."

[merlinastrice]

He grinned. "All right. It'll almost be like Yule again." He gave Ianto a hug. "Thank you for inviting me here. I would've brought something with me but I haven't had the time to make something..."

Ianto shook his head, smiling at Merlin. "You didn't have to, don't worry about it. Your presence alone is gift enough for me, Merlin. Thank you for coming." He brought up his arms to hug Merlin back, for a moment.

When he pulled back, Merlin smiled at him. "Are you kidding? I wouldn't miss this. To meet and see everyone? Especially after your visit to Camelot? Oh and Lady Alyssa still wishes to know how to best write to you. Apparently, you've left an impression on her." he teased.

Ianto blushed, but smiled at the younger man. "Well, I'd be happy to exchange letters with her, but I'm afraid for Lady Alyssa that that is as far as that affair can go," he joked back at him.

"She will be absolutely heartbroken." Merlin replied with a straight face. he only held it for about five seconds before he burst out laughing. "It was her fault for sneaking down to the servants' party. She was actually looking for one of the newer stable boys: Dan."

Jack chuckled at the other man, approving of the fact that he'd shown up inside the pub rather than outside in the cold night streets of Cardiff. He might have stood out a little, all things considered. "Hey there," Jack said, walking up and holding out a hand to shake Merlin's own hand. "I don't believe that we've actually met, before."

He smiled as he shook the man's hand. "No, I don't think we have. I'm Merlin. Friend of Ianto and Hikaru's actually. And you are?"

Jack smiled, shaking Merlin's hand back. "I'm Captain Jack Harkness. But, well. Just call me Jack, how about that? I'm...well. I'm also a friend of Ianto's and Sulu's." He grinned. "And I'm Ianto's boss, on top of that."
