A Night Out at the Pub

Jan 05, 2011 16:02

Surprisingly, Jack had insisted on a specific pub they rent out, and Ianto had stepped back and let him do so. Jack knew the owner, had been going there for years (and years and years), and so he could get the place cheap and quickly and still have the quality service that they wanted. And for an occasion like this one, quality was a must ( Read more... )

Giselle arrived fairly early on. She came bearing a batch of freshly made cookies, as she never liked to arrive at a party empty handed. She's very excited to be there and as usual has a bright smile on her face as she greets everyone. She will be taking it easy of course due to her pregnancy, so she'll be sitting down at one of the tables for now.

Ianto raises his head to see Giselle come in and hurries over to her table, grabbing a seat next to her. He smiles at her brightly. "Giselle," he says, pulling his chair up so that they could talk. "I'm so glad you could make it. You look gorgeous."

Giselle gives him a kind smile, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink.

"Thank you, Ianto. That's very kind of you," she replied. "You look quite handsome, as well."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Yes, well. I try. Jack managed to convince me out of wearing another suit, though," he said, motioning down to his jeans. Couldn't get rid of the dress shirt, though, so Ianto was still looking more like dressy casual than casual, really.

"Do you often wear suits?" she asked, curiously. It's true that out of the times she had seen him, Ianto was usually wearing a suit, but she wasn't sure if that was normal dress for him or not.

Ianto blushed. "Well, yes," he said honestly. "I generally do. I mean, less so now that we're mostly doing cleanup on the Hub, but. When we've got everything up and running again...yeah." He smiled. "I do like to be well-dressed, whenever I can be," he said.

She laughs gently. "Robert is the same. I think the only time he doesn't wear a suit is when he's home for the evening."

Ianto smiled. "That definitely does sound familiar. Does Robert work somewhere where they're required to wear suits, then, or does he just like wearing them, like me?" he wondered aloud.

"I think it's a little of both, actually," she admits. She has a gentle smile as she recalls her husband. "He is a lawyer, so he does need to wear them, but I think he enjoys wearing them just the same."

"Well, then," Ianto said, with a smile. "Tell him that I appreciate his sense of fashion, then, yeah? I mean. He's a lawyer, so. That makes sense. But I'm a teaboy, an archivist and a janitor, who runs a tourist office." As a front for Torchwood, that is. "I have absolutely no excuse at all."

"Do you really need one?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. "It seems to me that people should wear whatever it is they like." After all, not many people dressed the way she did, even if she did where some more normal clothes as of late.

Ianto shrugged. "I suppose not. It would just make a lot more sense to wear something more casual when you're working with messes like my job has a habit of putting me into. Granted, the last while, I've had to work in jeans and a jacket, but. That's because there's just too much dirt for me to justify anything else, really."

"What have you been doing lately that requires being in so much dirt?" Giselle asked curiously.

Ianto shrugged. "Well, we've been digging the Hub out from the rubble," he said. "It's...well, when everything was going on, there was a bomb, and now we're putting it back together. But there's a lot of dirt and construction to be done. It's...kind of a big mess."

"Oh my," she gasped. "That sounds like an awful lot of work. How long do you think it will take?

"Honestly," Ianto said, "I have absolutely no idea. It's a lot of work, and we really can't be involving too many other people into it, and all. Plus, what with Gwen being pregnant, well. I have to keep an eye on her, make sure she's not pushing herself too hard or anything like that. Keep Jack in line. On top of collecting all of the things that were in the archives, some of which are...well. Pretty dangerous." Luckily, everything that was explosive was in a special container that could survive 9 consecutive nuclear bombs, so. Everything should be fine, on that front.
