Why you should read it: This fic is dark, painful, lots of hurt with little comfort, and the ending is not happy. Be warned! This story is about the darker side of Torchwood. That said, it's an excellent read. The characters, given the circumstances, are exquisitely real and the author has a talent for creating the proper mood. Ianto's journey is horrifying, but his reactions and thoughts are so intense that you might find yourself clutching the arms of your chair in sympathy. Jack is absolutely terrifying, and yet also sympathetic. That he regrets his actions is obvious; that he can never fix them, equally so. And Owen, well, Owen is really the pivot point in all of this as we eventually discover. He is as broken as the other two, but doing his best as a doctor to put things back together. Some things are beyond repair.
