Why you should read it: An interesting look at how things could have happened. Though jossed by series 2, this delves into Ianto's lying liar tendencies - is it innate or simply out of necessity?
But he knows that the art to a good story, to a convincing lie, is to offer the truth as well.
The idea that Ianto's job was to make up alternate lives for people, that he sat in a room with his colleague and threw around ideas about what these people might do, what sort of imaginary turns their made-up lives might take - jobs, messy divorces, holidays, scandals - and then make it fact... that's powerful and dangerous. And Ianto would be so good at it, inventing these distant fictions, but it's different having to do so for himself.
There had to be some way that he'd conned Jack so well for all those weeks or months, but it doesn't mean that any of it was easy.
