Summary: When Jack got agitated enough to track down something as minor as overdosed drug addicts, Ianto could be sure it wasn't a case to be shoved carelessly towards the local police department.

Why you should read it: The story is prefaced with this quote by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche: It is possible to live almost without memory, and to live happily... but it is altogether impossible to live at all without forgetting. Using an innovative, non-linear style, dune_drd explores this idea as Jack and Ianto, with Gwen making only a cursory appearance in the fic, search for a new type of drug on the streets of Cardiff. It came through the rift and Jack's seen it before.

As the story unfolds, beginning with Ianto and Jack trapped and in need of rescue, we find out more about the drug, more about Jack, and finally how they managed to get locked into the walk-in freezer in the first place. It's a fascinating look at the concept of memory, a tantalizing peek into Jack's background, and an interesting twist on the dynamics of Jack and Ianto's relationship. The story is left somewhat open ended, more like an emotional case file on this one event than a single situation with a perfect resolution. This one made me think, and dig past the surface to consider memory - it's importance and it's burden. The one conclusion I did draw was this - I'm happy to be able to forget.
