Drabbles and Poetry

Nov 09, 2005 18:50

It just occurred to me that drabbles are in many ways like poetry...

They have a precise form. (100 words for a drabble, 14 lines for a sonnet.)

Making something to fit the form is a satisfaction in itself.

The form shapes what is said, and working to a form is a help in writing.

Being short, they are often impessionistic and suggestive.

To convey a lot in a few words, allusions and shared references are used.

Every word counts.

thoughts, poetry, drabbles
