His long, slender fingers rested upon the ivory keys. He couldn’t start playing yet, not yet. He never started playing until all was still, until all was silent. And although there wasn’t a single person around, he still couldn’t start. He could feel the thoughts racing through his head; it was all a huge mess.
He swallowed, calming himself down, slowing his erratic heartbeat. He could not play like this. Not when his mind was far, far away, not while everything in his mind was still one big trash pile. But somewhere deep inside he knew he had to, he had to play. It was the only thing that he could do now. For both himself, and him.
Then slowly everything came to a rest and he started. From the very start of the song he could feel the emotions flowing through his being. The meaning of this song. This song meant everything to him now. Everything.
Can you hear it?
Then as suddenly as it had began it ended, the last note resonating in the empty practice room. He paused for a moment, exhaling a breath he hadn’t known he had been holding.
A slow, soft clapping filled the room and he whirled around to find that he had an audience.
“You play very well, Nao-san”
Can you hear how this song calls for you?
He only bowed his head, not trusting himself to speak.
“What is the song called?”
Saga, please.
He answered him softly.
“Eraser-Memoire d'une fleur”
Remember me.
The other man smiled and nodded.
“It sounds like a nice song.”
As Saga left the room, Nao let out a silent cry of anguish.
His prayers were never answered.
