Last time was stupid, they were both in so much pain, both too brittle to be able to come together without shattering, but they tried. And failed. And wound up in more pieces than they’d started. But this time, he does mean it this time.

I really like this. The angst, John cutting himself off from all of them because it hurts too damn much, Rodney so desperate and hurt and still wanting him. The pulling out the chair was sweet, the awkwardness and them both stubbornly trying through it was believable, and I still felt there was a happy ending in spite of the obvious pain they've both been in. Thanks for sharing this.
