On Thursday last week, I paid my dues and became an official member of the Harbin Ice Front Kendo Club. Tuesday, I had already been given a member badge, so tonight I did a little sewing.
This is now attached to my keikogi's left sleeve.
What's it mean? Well, you can see that we have it on our taiko drum...
...and that the patch is sported by members of the dojo.
So when Li Sensei gave me a patch, I felt like I really was part of the crowd. (He added me to the WeChat group a couple weeks ago; that was an even bigger step, really, because now I get dojo announcements, including the attendance figures. I'm currently standing at #3 for best attendance this month, though I may have slipped a bit because I stayed home with a hacking cough on Sunday.)
Here are a couple other pics from the dojo.
Qu Sensei (a.k.a. 二师兄, or "Second Brother," who is the authority equivalent to Wendy Sensei back in Spokane) has even offered to buy me a Chinese zekken. That's really exciting. Of course, I'll keep my Spokane zekken forever, because Spokane will always be my home dojo, but I'm delighted to be so accepted here!
