2016 round up meme

Dec 31, 2016 13:10

Wow, what a surprise, the first post I've made since my 2015 round up

1. What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before?
Grow facial hair. Organise a funeral. Throw out all my bras. Live alone. Smoke cigarettes.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year was to be able to do pull ups by my birthday. I was able to do shitty ones, but I haven't gotten to the point where I can do the technical correct pull ups using my scaps. So, no.
For this year, it's less of a resolution and more of a series of choices. I need to make better choices.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Ummmmm not that I can think of

4. Did anyone close to you die?
AHAHAHAHAHAH. Yes. I've been dreading answering this question all year. My dad died in May. My uncle Gerry died in June. I put my cat Paxton down in November.

5. What countries did you visit?
Nope. Don't think I've even gone interestate, except for a brief adventure over the Murray River into NSW for an hour or so.

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
Self discipline. Emotions. Budgeting skills.

7. What date from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 23rd. Day I woke up in Dad's hospital room to discover he'd never wake up again.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Living alone feels like an achievement. And the effort I've put in at work in relation to a particularly massive project is something I'm proud of. Going to 10 year high school reunion and reconnecting with my old school best friends. And in a weird way, enjoying being single.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Smoking. Losing any motivation for the gym and stopping after surgery. Getting high at any opportunity. Pissing off Jen after we broke up.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Top surgery to get my breasts removed put me out of action for a few weeks, but that was self inflicted. Depression still hovers, but I've been able to lower my happy pill dosage, so hopefully I'll be weened off them soon

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My car. Weed. The rent I pay on my flat. My appointments with my psych.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My family. Gemma, Kylie, Steph. Fi & Megan. My boss. My psych.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Jen. She found out I'd started sleeping with other people very soon after the break up, and as revenge she has cut me off from Bonnie completely. God I miss Bonnie so much.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Probably stupid shit like food and cigarettes and Jen's rent.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Every little hair on my chinny chin chin. Not having boobs anymore. Being seen as male by the world without thought. Having some really, really good sex. Getting my MCC membership. Also, the Olympics were rad. The Bulldogs winning the premiership was rad.

16. What song will always remind you of 2016?
Music for a Found Harmonium by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. The song we used at Dad's funeral.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier about myself. Sadder about life.
ii. thinner or fatter? Much thinner. thanks testosterone!
iii. richer or poorer? Probably poorer, but more in control.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Lift weights. Save money. Think about Future Andy and the shit he needs. Sleep.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Smoke cigarettes. Stay up all night.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Breakfast at Mum's christmas morning which was great, but a bit sad because of the lack of Dad. Then went to my aunt's place for BBQ and water fight and predictions. Was pretty sad there and wanted to get away. Then came home, got changed and went to the beach at 10pm with Gemma because it was still 30 degrees.

21. Did you fall in love in 2016?
No.

22. How many one-night stands?
Not one-night stands, but a bunch of casual sex. It was awesome.

23. What was your favorite tv program?
Game of Thrones really picked up this season.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Jen. It's tough to say it, but I can't believe how cruel she's been in taking Bonnie away from me.

25. What was the best book you read?
Without Warning by John Birmingham

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
If I could answer Triple J and Spotify in the past, this year it's got to be public radio. Moving back to Melbourne means my life is how full of RRR and PBS radio, with all its eclectic wonder. Also, it wasn't a discovery, but seeing Sleater-Kinney in person was absolutely one of the highlights of the year. And of my music-loving life.

27. What did you want and get?
Independence. The chance to be selfish. Financial stability. Time with my family. Time with friends. Reconnecting with my brother. Moving back to Melbourne. Sex. A flat chest.

28. What did you want and not get?
Time with Bonnie. Self dicipline. My dad to live.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?
Carol.

30. What did you do on your birthday?
Almost nothing. It was spent in Dad's hospital room.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Dad not dying. Jen not being a cunt and letting me see Bonnie.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?
Masculine. I've been the king of opp shops again, scored heaps of fantastic clothes, especially work clothes. Mostly simple, button down shirt and decent jeans, still rocking the sports jerseys, tighter tshirts. Basically showing off that I'm down to a size 32 in pants, and I don't have boobs to fuck up how my shirts fit anymore. Binder free!

33. What kept you sane?
Weed. Anti depressants. Music. Sport. My friends, old and new.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I have a hell of a lot of respect for Hillary Clinton after this year.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The fucking terrible idea of a gay marriage pleblicite. DING DONG, IT'S DEAD!

36. Who did you miss?
Dad. Bonnie. French Jess. Paxton.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Gemma. Kylie. Matt from work brightens my day. Myself.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016?
When someone is in hospital, visit them

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I'm not suicidal just idling insignificantly" - Courtney Barnett, Elevator Operator
