Chapter 2
/Kaoru's POV/
I had been on my laptop last night when I came across a file. Toshiya's application form from an internet based maid agency. I had re-read the document and found out that today was his birthday.
I checked my watch. It was exactly 5:57pm. I grabbed the phone from my desk and dialed my home number.
"Hello, Nii-" I didn't wanna hear usual greeting, so I told him to shut up.
"Cut it out." He didn't reply. "You don't have to prepare dinner tonight, I'll eat outside."
"How about me?" He asked, worrying about his own stomach.
"Didn't you hear me? There won't be any cooking tonight." I heard him saying something that started with 's' and ended with something that sounds like an 'o' before I slammed the phone down. Putting whatever he said aside, I smirked. I was the master here so there's no point arguing.
I took the key from my pocket as I got up from my seat, heading to the parking lot.
Fifteen minutes later, I reached the shopping mall's parking lot. I still had the smirk on my face as I made my way inside.
I had decided last night what's the perfect 'gift' for my maid. I had never really bothered myself about my ex-maids birthdays, but Toshiya was different; way too different.
Besides being a man, he was the best among the maids I've ever had. But that wasn't the reason why I was buying him a gift. So far, he had been the only one who had the guts to oppose every order I gave him, that brat! That kid had never failed to tick me off.
He must have blinded my friends when they have said he was pretty. 'Cause honestly, he wasn't, not even close! Aside from the long legs, the slim body, the smooth skin, the plush lips, the silky hair and the gleaming eyes, there's nothing good about him!
Anyway, I finally reached my destination. I searched and examined almost everything inside the store and ended up three items in my hands. And since I couldn't decide which one I want and which would suit Toshiya the most, I'd buy them all.
"Would you like to check them again, sir?" The lady on the counter inquired.
I shook my head and she began putting them neatly in a box one by one. I handed my credit card as she finished packing them then gave it back to me as she handed three bags where the three boxes were in.
My stomach growled, reminding me that I haven't eaten dinner yet so I headed straight to the dining section and bought dinner for two. I'm not that evil after all. Plus, I wouldn't want to kill my maid because of hunger; that would totally ruin my reputation.
Oops. I almost forgot I had to drop by the jewelry shop before I go home.
I was having a hard time choosing, again. So, I closed my eyes and ran my index finger on the glass back and forth then stopped. I opened my eyes to see where my finger was pointing, which happened to be a necklace.
"Let me see this."
The sales lady immediately handed it to me.
I wore it around my neck to check if it was good or not. I inspected every angle of it through the mirror resting on top of the glass shelf.
I took the necklace off and handed it back. "I'll take it."
After a thirty-minute drive, I was home. As I entered the house, Toshiya was no where to be found. Odd. He has always been by the door to pick my shoes up when I come home. Where is that brat?! Now I had to pick up my own shoes! Darn it.
I roamed around the house only to find my maid sleeping on the couch. Great.
I took my phone out of my pocket and navigated to the Sounds folder, then placed it close to his ear before hitting the play button.
BANG!
"Waaaaaaaah!" Toshiya screamed at the top of his voiced as he bolted up from his peaceful sleep.
"Serves you right. Since when were you allowed to sleep during working hours?"
He was physically present, but not mentally 'all there'…his mouth was still hanging wide open.
I snapped my finger in front of his face to wake him up.
"Oh! You're home!" He was shocked.
"Where are your manners? Who do you think you're talking to?"
"Uh-oh. Welcome home."
"What's that?" I gave him the look that means 'repeat what you just said'
"Welcome home, Master Kaoru." He bowed this time.
"Good." I handed him the dinner I bought. "Have it ready when I got back." I loosened my tie as I headed to my bedroom to change my clothes as he went to the dining room.
I found him sulking as he stood in the dining room with the food I bought on the table before him. I took my seat.
"Mmm… delicious!" I said as I licked my lips after shoving a tempura in my mouth. I saw him roll his eyes from the corner of my eye. I continued emitting 'mmm' sounds as I chew. "It's so good~!" I said as I heard his crying stomach.
That's enough for now.
"Are you just gonna watch?" I asked and he gave me a confused look. "Eat." He gave me another confused look, which is starting to get in my nerves. "Do you want to starve or what?!"
He took a seat near me as quick as a lightning.
"What are you doing?"
Again, he gave me a confused look. "Eating?"
I pointed to the furthest side of the dining table, making him turn his head to that direction. No way in hell I'm going to eat with a maid!
He got up and did as he was told and ate silently.
I put my chopsticks down as I finished my meal. "Go to my room when you're done."
"Why?" He questioned.
See? He never leaves a single order alone.
"Because I said so." I ordered before disappearing into my room.
I heard a knock that signaled Toshiya's arrival. "Come in."
He came in and stood in front of my table, inspecting the papers on top of it.
I got up from my seat to fetch the bags from the shopping mall and handed them to him.
"What are these?"
I sighed. He was totally unaware of the everything.
"Isn't it your birthday?"
"Is it?!" He asked, wide-eyed. "Oh! I forgot!" How incredibly stupid. "Are these for me?"
I guess I've found the most dim-witted person on earth. Why do I always have to state the obvious? I rolled my eyes. But, since it was his birthday, I decided to be nice to him and nodded.
"Aww… Thank you!" He said loudly and hugged me.
He hugged me!!! My initial reaction was to push him away, and I did, harshly. But that didn't change his facial expression. He was still smiling like crazy. "Leave." I said coldly.
I smirked as I heard the door shut. I wanted to laugh. But of course I didn't, that would make me look stupid, which was the last thing I wanted.
