Gogol Bordello.
Hands down the best live band I've ever seen. I know I say that at least once a year... but new acts keep topping the last ones! This one is going to be tough to top though. I had incredibly high expectations going in... and they blew me away on every level. Damn nice venue too. (Toad's Place in Richmond) The encore lasted a year. Most energetic thing ever. Kids who saw Radiohead with me... remember how soaking wet we were from the rain? Yeah. I left this show that soaked too. From sweat. It was disgusting. And wonderful. I really don't know how they can maintain that level of energy across an entire tour. I'm very impressed. Tonight I also met my favorite concert acquaintance ever. At some point about halfway through the fifty-minute encore (seriously) I was talking a mild rest in the middle of the pit. I stopped jumping for maybe a minute. Some girl next to me punched me in the nose, apologized, realized I wasn't jumping, and started beating on my chest with a huge grin on her face while screaming "party!" The sheer hilarity of that made me decide my rest was over. So it was back to as it was before. Non-stop crazy fucking awesome crazy dancing party. I know. Two crazy's. It really was though. Really.
Needless to say, it's been a good day for me. (Well, aside from Portugal losing to Germany. That fucks up my whole tournament prediction. I'll have to write another one.) Awesome day, in fact, with the GREAT show and the release of a highly anticipated album. Lovely times. There are very few ways that could end a day like today on a better note... So, I highly expect the rest of the week to horribly suck. That would balance things out to around par. Oh well. It's well worth it.
