Up until the free My Chemical Romance concert at the TLA, I had never seen a famous band perform live...because of this I always felt like I was missin out on something you all had experienced. However, since I have been up here at Hofstra I have been fortunate enough to see 3 concerts already.
Jason Mraz concert...my friend Alex offered me a free ticket to come see him with her, so naturally I took it. Since "The Remedy" hit the radio airwaves, I have always been a fan of Mr. Mraz but this concert really opened my eyes to how incredibly talented he really is. He has such a large range, both vocally and musically. It was a really upscale concert, it was at the Avery Fisher Music Hall which is next door to the Metropolitan Opera House (The Met) in Manhattan. Everyone remained seated for a good portion of the concert, it was chill and enjoyable!
Hanson...My friend Rachel like begged me to come because she had no one to go with, it didn't take much begging though, because I freakin love those guys. What a blast from the past, I somewhat felt 13 again when I first MMMBOP-ed haha. I really admire Hanson, they can disappear for a while and then jump back onto the music scene with a completely different sound and look. Somewhat comparable to Madonna, artists that have this skill will be around for a long time. We all know I'm still distraught they didn't play "Penny & Me" which is my favorite song and sparked the name for my deceased car. I know for a fact those bastards heard me request it too, I was really loud and really close. The one opening band made me happy because the played 2 cover songs: "American Girl" by Tom Petty and "I want you to want me" I was rockin out. The venue for this concert was the Nokia Theater in Times Square...that place is so awesome, there's not a bad spot in the entire place. You're always close to the stage.
YELLOWCARD...It was a 3-hour-drive to Scranton and the bar it was held at wasn't meant for concerts but it was WELL worth it. This was my favorite concert I've ever been to and probally ever will go to! I think I love Yellowcard even more than I did before...(if that's possible). They are definately my favorite band and I cannot stop listening to the Ocean Avenue Cd despite the fact that I've listened to it so many times before. The songs NEVER get old. I think a major difference in this concert in comparison to the others is that I truly love the people I was with...my new friends Ashley Guzzo and Krisine Tetelman, and one of my best friends... Shauny G. Shaun says he considers them "our band" and I agree. He first heard them in my car one night and instantly loved them as I do. Since then, we have listened to the cd start to finish on every road trip. They played "Life of a salesman" which is Shaun's favorite, and "Believe" which is mine (if I had to pick one). I think I love Yellowcard this much because every song holds a special meaning to me, for instance "Way Away" is the song I would run to in order to get ready for soccer camp, and "View from Heaven" was a major part of our Variety Show...etc...so Yellowcard has been very prevalent throughout the past year or so of my life.
