Once upon a time, Ryan Ross blogged about how he was going to start listening to a new band every day. As a sort of spin off that, I (along with
fallintosilence) am going to attempt to listen to one new band (or one new CD from an old favorite band) a week. I'll probably eventually add the books I read, or the movies I see, just because I have a terrible memory and want to keep better track. If you have any recommendations for new music or anything, just let me know in a comment. :)
January, week one
Editors :: An End Has A Start
Didn't actually care much for this album. Listened to it because I liked their song 'Bullets', but kind of had to force myself through listening to this, I dunno. Listened to this about three times all the way through, but the song "The Weight of the World" has the most listens, idk. I just didn't enjoy it, so I would not recommend this to anyone, sorry! The singer reminded me of a not!good Brandon Flowers.
January, week two
*Butch Walker :: Letters
I loved this album way. too. much. Butch Walker could easily turn into an obsession for me, and I'm surprised I'm only just getting into him now, considering the fandom I'm in. God, I loved every single track on this CD, and will definitely pimp it out to all of my friends. 'Thank-You Note' was absolutely incredible, and I was bopping around to 'Uncomfortably Numb' all week. 'Mixtape' was really really good and seriously, just try and listen to this album and not like it. I dare you. This is all I want to listen to right now. It makes me want to hang with my friends on the beach and wear squashy flipflops and large sun hats with my curls all loose along my back. This guy has undeniable talent and it makes me smile.
January, week three
Kanye West :: Late Registration
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so I'll be the first to admit that rap is something I'm very closed-minded about. The only rap I've really listened to (other than a few stray dance songs here and there. Brendon Urie Got It From His Mama, okay?) is Gym Class Heroes, and they probably fall more under pop/rock than "rap". I asked my friend
wishnik9 to upload this album for me because we always joke about the "bitch, is you smokin' reefer?" line, but HOLY JEEZE. This album was fantastic. 5/5 stars from me for sure. The lyrics are totally cool and it's so obvious why
he and Pete Wentz would be friends. They both share that addictive and clever way of writing.
My favorite song: Bring Me Down. Dog, if I was you, I'd kill myself
Made a mill myself, and I'm still myself
And I'ma look in the mirror if I need some help
Now I'll speak from the heart, you all fronting
Everybody feel a way about K, but at least you all feel something
Ahhhh, I could quote so many lyrics from this CD. I'm so glad I listened to it. It might have had a few too many guest vocals for my tastes, but it was still really awesome. I forgot better shit than you ever thought up. Also he is funny. Says she want diamonds, I took her to Ruby Tuesdays,
If we up in Friday's, I still have it my way. I could probably write a paper on Late Registration. Listen to this one. It'll change (if only slightly) a couple of your stereotypes about rap (and at the same time totally support others).

We got to choose a book in my Education Major class and I chose this one. It's qualifies under "teen fiction", and I would definitely not teach this book to any class under 9th grade. I can't say that I particularly enjoyed it (and not just because of the subject), but it was obviously a decent book. I really didn't care for the way that everything was so open, like the super super open ending, but I guess it was more realistic that way. I kept yelling at Lakshmi in my head for being so gullible, but that was just the way the character was; the way her culture conditioned her. Eh. Quick read.
