My take on the shoots subject matter

Mar 13, 2008 11:18

Was anyone else just totally disgusted by the decision to use meat in the last photo shoot?  I found it so disgusting.  Of course I am a vegetarian and concerned with animal rights so I understand that my visceral reaction may not be shared by everyone but regardless there are a couple of indisputable facts:

-Meat is for eating. What happened to all that food after it was worn or posed on?  Thrown out, I bet.  What a waste, in terms of the resources it takes to feed and raise the cattle, kill them, and process the meat.  What's the carbon footprint?
-Last cycle was the green cycle.  This photo shoot would have been a perfect time to point out that a meat-based diet has a serious ecological footprint (for those who want to learn more, I will point you towards a report entitled Livestock's Long Shadow (pdf), which was written by the LEAD Initiative, which is supposed by the United Nations among other global organizations.

I understand that lots of you eat meat and may not have been disturbed by it on the animal rights issue, but I think we can all agree that it was sure WASTEFUL.....I was really shocked that not ONE girl stood up and spoke out against it or refused to take part because of her belief about animal rights.  They wouldn't make a Muslim eat pork, would they?

Anyway...thoughts?  flames?

ETA: Mod said this is not a spoiler, so I am removing the cut.
