Just wondering

I was watching the cycle 3 marathon yesterday and I saw the whole Cassie incident unfold with the bulimia/anorexia thing. The girls thought that Amanda told them about it because she just wanted to get Cassie out... why was that exactly? Is there an official rule that says you can't compete if you're bulemic/anorexic?

..there should be.

i thought more would go down than what did because of how concerned tyra was with elyse cycle 1.

maybe they wanted drama with cycle 1 because they knew it wasn't true. they might feel that they would harm the girl even more if she had the issue. idk...i thought it was crazy.

I don't think so but it makes sense that someone with an openly admitted eating disorder would probably be eliminated, especially if they are refusing help like Cassie did. Competing against other thin girls is not a healthy environment for someone with an eating disorder and they might be seen as a bad role model.

I was very upset with the way the girls reacted towards Amanda for telling Cassie's secret. She SHOULD have told, and I think she did the right thing! The girl was killing herself.

Top Model seems to preach health as far as models are concerned, so if there's no hard and fast rule on paper about anorexia/bulimia, I'm guessing it's implied.

I think there is a rule about being healthy, and if not there should be. ANTM always preaches about models being role models and so they could eliminate her on account of having an eating disorder.

I think there's a rule that says "you must be in excellent physical and mental health," or something of the sort.

Don't they do psychology tests before they can be picked?

I doubt there's a rule, because I'm sure that Tyra & Co. know that finding out a girl has/had an eating disorder can make for good TV (not trying to make light of eating disorders, but you know it's true), but said girl would have to be instantly eliminated because Tyra abhors eating disorders, and also because it would look bad for the show to keep someone around once the eating disorder is revealed to the viewing public.

I agree. Having an eating disorder doesn't make you look too good and Tyra constantly disapproves of eating disorders. HOWEVER, if a girl had an eating disorder, only to fight through it and become "cured" (all thanks to Tyra's help, of course), then THAT'S a good role model AND good TV.
