Went in for a consult today. Had a doosy of a panic attack out in the parking lot, so when they took my vitals, they were more than a little shocked at my heart rate and bp. Too funny. So the consult consisted of the MA asking me a series of sleep-related questions and entering my answers into the computer. 10 minutes later the doctor walks in and asks me the same questions, reviewing the answer's i'd already given, and then asked me a little bit about my snoring history. After he explained what Obstructive Sleep Apnea was, he asked if he could schedule me for a sleep study. After I agreed, he went into detail about what will happen when I go in, what the tests will show, bla bla bla, and then, at some point, they're going to wake me up and let me try out a CPAP machine and see how I sleep with it. He said the machine takes a couple to a few months to get used to, but once I do, my quality of life should increase dramatically.. more energy, more sleep, less getting up at night, no snoring, no lethargy in the afternoons, no morning headaches from lack of air.. I'm excited, but at the same time, I'm freaking scared. What if I can't fall asleep? What if I do fall asleep but it isn't long enough for them to get a good reading? Anyway. I have a follow up scheduled a little less than a month from today to go over the findings and get my own cpap unit. Seems like a long time to wait for relief, BUT! I've waited this long, couldn't kill me to wait a little longer. Well, it could, but you (whoever you are) know what I mean.
