Chapter Thirty
Jack
I heard the door unlock from the bedroom where I was standing pointing a gun towards the man who had targeted my friend over seventy years ago. There was a voice talking into a mobile phone, belonging to James Elton who this man was now targeting. I looked deeply into the eyes of the man who stood before me knowing that he was reading my mind but I didn’t care. I just wanted James to be safe.
A few minutes later the door slowly opened and James appeared with the phone still in his hand. He didn’t notice the other man but just kept my eyes on me. I didn’t know what he was doing until he slowly walked towards me.
“Can you feel that?” He asked with a smile.
“Feel what?” I asked with puzzlement but he didn’t answer just kept staring at me until a grin escaped from his lips.
“You can feel it can’t you?” He asked before turning around to the other man in the room, “Me reading your mind, finding out that you killed your son or that your real name is Dante.”
“He was going to help you,” Dante spoke with anger, “So I had to kill him to protect me. Still I can hear that you figured most of it out.”
“Of course, seriously did you think targeting me would be the best option?” James asked.
“You weren’t a target at first, but when Thomas found that you were the great-grandson of Lachlan Andrews, our purpose was complete,” Dante replied with satisfaction.
“What purpose?” I asked now getting interested. James though spoke again.
“You caused me pain you know that?”
“Well yes but only so you could scream out the asylum,” Dante replied through gritted teeth, “Anyway the others are already dead.”
“I guessed that, since you kill people,” James replied, “The original three people in 1930s, your son and not to mention your wife....”
“She deserved it as she stopped us from getting a very large fortune,” Dante replied now getting very angry, “She swallowed something that was very precious.”
“Can someone please tell me what is going on?” I asked with my gun still raised. James turned around to face me.
“I’m not the target Jack, you are.” He replied which caused me to put down my gun. “He wants to know where his wife is.”
“Very good James I’m impressed,” Dante said with a smile, “But I’m afraid that I have to get rid of you.” He added before James closed his eyes and started to scream in pain.
I ran forward and put my arm around him putting a hand over his mouth to calm him down. He struggled against me but only because of the pain. Dante started to laugh.
“Ah Jack, how sweet, now tell me where the body is.” Dante said, “Or your friend’s great-grandson dies.”
I held James close before closing my eyes.
