Chapter Seventeen
James
The pier was dark except for a light illuminating a figure leaning on the railing at the end. I started to walk wondering what I was going to say to him. A thousand thoughts swirled my head filled with anger and curiosity. He just stood there looking over the water silent. As I drew closer I sighed and stopped a few feet behind him.
“Hello Thomas.” I said which made him look up from his daydream.
“James, I’m glad you came.” Thomas replied fully turning around and smiling, “I’m sorry about the other day; I panicked when I saw Jack.”
The tingling feeling started again as I walked closer to join him. He was reading my mind but this time I wanted him to. I didn’t know if I could trust him after what happened at the cafe but somehow there was more to the story. He noticed the look on my face.
“Wow so you can feel me.” He said rather surprised, “I’ve never met a person who could.”
“Well I can which I don’t understand why.” I replied rather puzzled, “Still you caused me to faint in the street.”
“That wasn’t me James, I don’t know what happened.” Thomas said pleadingly. “All I know is that you were calling out for Jack’s help.”
I stood there stunned as what he had revealed. Was he lying? He certainly didn’t look like he was but the expression on his face. Though I wasn’t sure if I believed it, then again it might explain why I couldn’t remember what happened after I had fainted and why Jack had told me that I had scared him. Thomas didn’t wait for me to reply but kept talking.
“I don’t understand it either, you might not know it but you’re a very intelligent man.” Thomas replied with a smile. “There’s something about you that is locked inside your mind that could explain all this.”
“Was there something you wanted to tell me?” I asked diverting back to what I thought he had called me here for. “What was it that you wanted to tell me at the cafe?”
“I had some information that turned out to be wrong, like you I thought those game boys played a part in the disappearances. That turned out to be a very dead end.” He replied, “You see I was at the hospital undercover, though it sort of scrambled my time.”
I nodded, “Yes the ‘game boys’ were given to the patients after the first disappearance. Though do you know anything about the asylum?”
He perked up at the word asylum and looked like I had just made his day. Though he didn’t elaborate it further but walked up and kissed me on the cheek. It made me blush slightly.
“Thanks, I’ll see what I can find and get back to you.” He said with a smile before walking off down the pier. I stopped him by grabbing his arm.
“You suffer from Bipolar don’t you?” I asked in which he turned his head and nodded. “I thought so as it really changes your mind reading, like you use it against us.”
“I don’t mean too.” He said rather grimly. “That’s how you got me to trust you James Elton; you know what it’s like to be bipolar.”
I frowned, “I never told anyone, except for Damien and Martha.” I explained letting go of his arm.
“Well you take care now.” Thomas told me, “Hopefully I’ll see you soon.”
I nodded and watched him walk down the pier. I leant on the railing and stared out into the bay. That had been a very interesting conversation and it made me realise that I was starting to trust Thomas. I started to think about Jack and how I must have scared him when calling out for help. How did I do it? I began to wonder.
“Why are you standing out here in the freezing weather?” A voice asked behind me.
