1. What would your character kill for? What would they die for?
Jack Harkness would kill for the people that he loves, especially his Torchwood team. He’s also willing to kill for the Doctor even though The Doctor doesn’t wish that on any of his friends. If Jack would die then he would die for The Doctor, his team and the safety of the Earth.
2. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances? Why?
Jack would refuse to obey to the Doctor’s orders not to use his teleporter function on the vortex manipulator especially when the Doctor needs help.
3. What do they dream about?
Jack dreams about past relationships and events that have had an impact on the time he has spent on Earth. Sometimes they are bad but mostly they are positive and cause him to smile in his sleep. Lately a certain Welshman has started to dominate his dreams.
4. What’s their biggest fear?
His biggest fear is what is going happen to him in the future. If he is going to stay like he is forever or if age will creep up on him, since he seems to age very slowly. It’s more of a vanity thing but it scares him since he knows he is the man that will never die.
5. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why?
In the past it was The Doctor’s hand which he turned into a Doctor detector since it will help him to reunite with The Doctor. Nowadays it would be his vortex manipulator.
6. What is their fondest memory?
His fondest memory would be the day when he met the Doctor and Rose in 1942 during the London Blitz as it changed his whole life completely.
7. What is their worst memory?
He has two many to count but the ones that stick out is the day that he let go of his brother’s hand on Boeshane during an invasion and when he was left alone at the game station.
8. What or who was their most significance influence? Expound.
The Doctor since he changed Jack’s life after they met during the London Blitz. Since then Jack has always done things to help the Doctor. He rebuilt Torchwood in the Doctor’s honour after the battle at Canary Wharf.
9. What do they believe makes a successful life?
Jack wouldn’t have an answer but just throw the question back at you.
10. What makes them laugh?
Overhearing conversations the team have about his past. Also little human moments he experiences with his team, including Ianto and Gwen. Recently he over heard a convo between Ianto and Sophie about God which really made him laugh.
11. What are their religious views?
Jack has never believed in God and also knows that there is no God after his death at the game station. He is tolerant of other people’s beliefs and doesn’t want to make them upset or angry if he told them the truth.
12. What is their greatest strength?
Jack doesn’t like to answer this question but has overheard other peoples’ answers. They have said that he doesn’t give up and also that he makes them feel better about themselves.
13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so, what is it?
Jack will always be there to help people if they want it or not.
14. Who is their most important person in their life?
The Doctor but Gwen and Ianto can also be up there.
15. If they died, who would miss them the most? How would they die?
I like to think that Jack will become the Face of Boe and die at the senate of New New York after telling The Doctor “You Are Not Alone”. I think he would like that. I don’t think anyone will miss him since they would long dead.
While I decided to challenge myself with an original character called
Emmett Clarke, who I want to use in the short story I have to write for my short creative writing course.
1. What would your character kill for? What would they die for?
Emmett Clarke will kill for his country if he had the chance but is happy to be working for Army intelligence. He would also kill for Captain Lachlan Peters but he suspects that Lachlan would try to talk him out of it. He will die for the people above and his family including his father. He sometimes wishes that Lachlan won’t talk him out of it.
2. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances? Why?
Emmett will never betray his country and his fellow soldiers in the army since he knows what the consequences will be if his does.
3. What do they dream about?
He dreams about his mother who died when he was sixteen. He wonders why the memories are coming back to haunt him, the good and the bad. Lachlan sometimes pops up in his dreams with warnings but they are mostly sexual.
4. What’s their biggest fear?
That the war will never end. He always questions why they went to war in the first place and why the cause is such an important issue.
5. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why?
The gold ring that Lachlan gave him while they were on weekend leave since it symbolises that their relationship is more than a fling.
6. What is their fondest memory?
Meeting Lachlan three years ago in the officers’ lounge, even though the relationship started with an argument and a punch up.
7. What is their worst memory?
Saying goodbye to his best friend James who went off to join the air force only to be killed in action about four months after finishing his training.
8. What or who was their most significant influence? Expound.
Emmett would say his father because he taught him everything he needed to know. His father didn’t care about Emmett’s sexuality and was happy to talk about it with him. Emmett thinks his father is the most liberal person that his knows.
9. What do they believe makes a successful life?
Emmett doesn’t really know because he’s still trying to figure out the answer. He is still wondering how he got to the point of becoming Lieutenant.
10. What makes them laugh?
The jokes that Lachlan tells him when they are alone together, the conversations he has with the other lower ranked officers and the amusing disturbing thoughts in his head.
11. What are their religious views?
Emmett believes that there is something out there but sees himself as an atheist. As the Army are now tolerant of other people’s cultures he doesn’t have to go to mass anymore but he sometimes goes if an officer or private has been killed in action. He respects others around him but doesn’t agree with religion in general.
12. What is their greatest strength?
Emmett doesn’t think he hasn’t any strengths but Lachlan always points out that he always listens to what other people have to say.
13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so what is it?
Emmett seems to let himself think all the time, even when he is trying to sleep in the middle of the night. He lets the guilt of the deaths of his mother and best friend to enter into his head. Also he is guilty about the accident that left him with a limp.
14. Who is the most important person in their life?
At the moment Lachlan but sometimes he wishes it wasn’t. With both of them in the army he worries that Lachlan will get his wish and be shipped off to fight for his country. He really doesn’t want to lose Lachlan.
15. If they died, who would miss them the most them most? How would they die?
His father will miss him the most because of their very close relationship. Lachlan will miss him too but will honour Emmett’s wish for him to move on with his life. Emmett will probably die after a suicide attempt.
