Top 5 Steve Martin films

Dec 16, 2004 21:06

This is another guy I was thinking needed a top five, so I'm glad theskooch got the ball moving on it. His best work is probably in the King Tut and "two wild and crazy guys" sketches from Saturday Night Live (which he hosted a record 13 times), but they don't qualify here. Notable Martin movies I haven't seen include The Jerk, Bringing Down the House, Novocaine, Bowfinger, The Spanish Prisoner, Mixed Nuts, Roxanne, ¡Three Amigos! or Little Shop of Horrors. Here's the list...

5. Planes, Trains & Automobiles (his older films are mostly a blur to me, but I do remember laughing a lot at this one. Of course, I was ten years old, so I doubt I got the subtle jokes. If there were any)
4. Parenthood (again, a blur. I was twelve now, so maybe my laughter was more justified. And, hey, Keanu Reeves AND Joaquin Phoenix)
3. Cheaper by the Dozen (finally, something I remember. This is a charming little comedy that is a bit of a companion piece to Parenthood. The only Hilary Duff movie I've seen)
2. Father of the Bride (this movie would be better if there was less Martin Short. I know he MADE the movie for some people, but he does nothing for me personally. I've never seen him do something that wasn't a charicature)
1. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (fantastic movie, if I remember correctly. Michael Caine is funnier in it, in my opinion, but Martin is still hilarious in it. I've got culture coming out of my ass)
