Here ya go, Skooch, as
requested. I'm not sure if I have 5 Christmas movies in me, but specials? Ah yeah. I grew up on these, watching the same ones every year. This was back when there was only 12 channels, and no home video collections. So when the season would roll around, you had to find out who was showing what when and make your plans. Watching these specials made me feel like Christmas was on its way. I don't watch them now, but look forward to watching them again with my future kids. Hopefully, we'll do it old school, only watching them when they're on TV, and not buying them to own whenever we want. Cause kids will watch the same video overandoverandoverandover until you hate it.
5. Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983)- This one is the grey area on the list. It wasn't originally a TV special, as it was nominated for the Best Animated Short Film Academy Award. But, it's not a movie, and is on TV every year. My favourite part is when Goofy tells Scrooge McDuck as Jacob Marley that he'll be visited by three ghosts, while holding up two fingers. Ahhh, Goofy.
4. Frosty the Snowman (1969)- A classic that was diminished a bit by a silly sequel (Frosty Returns!). Apparently, there was also a Frosty/Rudolph crossover special as well.
3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)- I think this one scared me a bit as a kid. Such a wuss.
2. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)- The most subversive kid's film of all-time. Can you believe how cold Santa, and even his parents, are to Rudolph. This is a classic example of how the world treats minorities, casting out the freak and the homosexual elf until Rudolph's handicap proves useful. So sad. This one showed me that Santa was a ornery (look how mean he was to Mrs. Claus and the elves), xenophobic prick.
1. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1966)- This one won an Emmy. The best of all the Peanuts specials. Linus still chokes me up a bit. I bet Public Schools can't show this one. Good Grief.
