Announcement from a Mod

Three and a half years ago, theskooch and I were killing time during our shift at a now-defunct music store, coming up with various top five lists (e.g., "name your top five John Cusack movies", "Top Five Hitman movies", etc). Even back then, I was more committal while he didn't want to comment on things he hadn't seen. Skooch had just recently started his ( Read more... )

I can certainly see where you're coming from. Just personally, if you ever were bored enough to check out my post history, one would notice that it goes in spurts. I never regularly posted anything; I'd do 7-12 reviews in the course of a month, and return at another time to do more.

I haven't had a chance to have another upswing lately because I got a hosting job on a TV show here at the college. It's been pretty kick ass. I put the first episode on YouTube; just search my name, Jason Antoniewicz.

But to write off LiveJournal is...eh. This community, in my opinion, was full of people who weren't that fickle.

I don't think fickle is the right word, and I apologise if I gave that impression. I understand that a lot of posters were cyclical like yourself, but those cycles have become more infrequent over the past few months.

Anyway, congratulations on the hosting job. That's awesome.

To say I've come to the same conclusions as Andy is an understatement. For me the breaking point was when we hit 1000 tags here for the community and we couldn't create anymore. For me, that felt like we'd hit a ceiling, grown as big as we could here on LJ. Since that period, my motivation for posting gradually decreased to the level of apathy I'm at now. I haven't posted a movie review since the beginning of the year, and honestly, I'm finding that I enjoy watching movies more nowadays. Neither Andy nor I have spoken to Mikey about this, but I'm not too keen on being a moderator of a community where 80-90% of the members don't contribute other than maybe reading. We rarely seem to get any feedback from anyone other than the die-hards on things, and that has increased my apathy as well.

I'm not going to close down the community or anything. In fact, when I see new posters like the_baxter start making posts, I almost get the urge to start posting again. Honestly, what I'd like to do is put the community into the hands of someone that is excited ( ... )

Thank you! Glad to be here. I'll do my best to keep it lively. I seem to have a knack for the unpopular opinions and that sometimes helps draw activity.

I've gone ahead and added you. I always enjoy reading your reviews, particularly of the movies I have seen (even if I don't always comment!). I find your reviews insightful and dead on for most of the time.

I'm sorry to see you go, but I do understand your reasoning.

LJ is definitely "dying out" as is evidenced by all the communities I belong to/used belong to. It seems that people are rarely posting anything in communities anymore and are once again isolating themselves in their personal journals. That's a shame, of course, because LJ's strongsuit has always been the community involvement.

Partly chastised by your comments above, I went ahead and posted a review!

Sorry to see that you are leaving. It was this site that got me to check out a bunch of shows and movies I never would have before (Veronica Mars, and more recently Big Love). I wish I could contribute more but unfortunately I am usually too busy to write as much as I would like.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to read that.

You're still on my friend-listing though but, still, it's odd that you're not going to be a part of this community anymore. IT'S THE END OF AN ERA! :S
