Top 20 Albums of 2007

Jan 05, 2008 18:48

Last year, I struggled to come up with more than 10 albums I was passionate enough about to write about, so I decided to stick to ten. No such problem this year, which was a rebound year for art in pop culture in general (as long as you kept paying attention after the summer), bringing me back to a top 20 list. As always, this is a list of how I ( Read more... )

i actually love tons of these albums, & lots of them were on my own list or close to: 11, 15 & 17 were on mine, & 3, 6, 10, 12, 19 & 20 were second-runs. good taste.

also...

i actually think 2006 was a phenomenal year for music - between orphans by tom waits, modern times by dylan, fox confessor brings the flood by neko case, fishscale by ghostface, jarvis cocker's solo debut, the elvis costello & allen toussaint record, whatever people say i am... by the arctic monkeys - & that just scratches the surface - i think it's rather tough to beat this decade, its only real challengers being 2001 & maybe 2004.

For whatever reason, Modern Times didn't really do it for me. I can appreciate Ghostface's talent, but I don't listen to him all that often (although back in the day, I LOVED Ironman).

Arctic Monkeys and Neko Case were both mentioned in my top ten last year (Neko as an HM), but overall, I just didn't love last year's music, although it still had plenty of albums that I liked.

Once again, I agree with all (or most) of your choices, but just not in the same order that you put them in. Good inclusion of Rilo Kiley, I forgot about that one, nice list

Yeah, I'm guessing a lot of people still listen to those bands. A hazard of spending too much time on the internet reading music critism and year end lists is that I get a little tired of how quickly people abandon things to try and catch on to the newest thing. That, and it's hard coming up with 20 different ways to say "I like this album".
