TOP 5 - 1970's Films

Perhaps my least favorite decade as far as movies go, but finding 5 is still a sinch.

Note: No Godfather

TOP 5 1970's FILMS

05: Solaris (1972)
Directed By: Andrei Tarkovsky
Starring: Donatas Banionis
Although I like the George Clooney version a bit better, the original is still really trippy and introspective. Like many movies in my top five lists, this one is also a bit unconventional, with a lot left up to the viewer to decide. Invest yourself, it's worth it.

04: Alien (1979)
Directed By: Ridley Scott
Starring: Sigourney Weaver

I actually prefer this to the sequel, mostly because of the sheer terror of the crew discovering the alien, rather than the action itself... The alien is such a cool villain that they're still making crappy rip-offs and spin-offs today. Still Ridley Scott's best movie so far.

03: Monty Python & The Holy Grail (1975)
Directed By: Terry Gilliam
Starring: John Cleese

This movie is so funny that it inspired me to start filming my own silly fight scenes. Years later, I have nothing to show for it but a few DV tapes that are only funny to about 10 people. Still, MP&HG will live on as the silliest stupid movie I've ever seen.

02: Eraserhead (1977)
Directed By: David Lynch
Starring: Jack Nance
The best thing about this movie is that the more you try to explain it, the worse it becomes. It's best to watch it once, think about it for a week, watch it again, and then come up with your own interpretations of the very stange and disturbing sequences.

01: Apocalypse Now (1979)
Directed By: Francis Ford Coppola
Starring: Martin Sheen & Marlon Brando

This movie about maddness can be apprectiated and interpreted on many levels... anyone who says it's overrated just doesn't understand, man! It is the best war movie of all time. However, if you haven't seen it yet, avoid the REDUX version, which really blows.
