I loved this movie too, but doesn't it bother anyone that the old grandpa and Olive were in a room alone where he taught her seductive dance moves? If this were real life, he'd have been arrested. If, you know, he hadn't already, well, you know.
Yes, I agree totally with LaRae. I saw this movie in the theater, and the thought that he may have been molesting Olive -- or at least deriving some form of sexual pleasure, even if it didn't involve touching Olive -- never even crossed my mind until I read reviews. I watched the movie again recently with an eye to see if there are any clues as to what the movie thinks went on behind those doors, and I cannot find a single indication that even suggests that the grandpa's motivations were in the least sexual. Olive never acts uncomfortable with her grandpa, and LaRae's suggestion that the grandfather is merely flipping the bird to the beauty pageant people is consistent with his actions and attitude throughout the entire movie

I hereby decree that no one is allowed to be rude to those who are commenting on my reviews because of the length of their comments.
Exceptions of course are: Andy and Skooch. Be rude to them all you want! LOL and Bwaaaaaahahahahahahaha!
I can see what she's saying though. I think we have to take on faith that the molestation of a child would 1. not be in grandpa's character as demonstrated and 2. it would completely distract from the entire theme and feel of the movie.

Argh. I forgot that that part was a spoiler. My apologies.
Second, I think it would still be suspect were it to happen in real life. I don't think it was handled as sexual in the movie, but the situation still seems a little shady, in my opinion.

I re-read my comment and I hope my First off: comment didn't seem angry or snotty. I was just typing fast.
I know that because of some of my personal experiences, I was uncomfortable that olive was sleeping with grandpa. I think the writers weren't going that way though.

They started the "seductive" dance moves before the hotel room. They talk about it earlier in the movie.
I think the dance was more about flipping off the people who would be offended then it is about sex.
