Top Five Favorite Video Games

I include the "favorite" for safety purposes. While these are my personal favorite video games of all time, I know a list like this won't hold to critics or lovers of RPG games like Zelda (minor spoiler). But ... I don't care, these are the ones I love.

5 - Battlefield 1942 (PC). I love a good World War II game, and this is the best I've seen yet. The single player campaign may not be the best, but in terms of multiplayer I have never had so much fun developing strategies for every map in this game. The best part of the game for me is the wide selection of historic battles. Later mods would only make this game so much better, namely its Desert Combat mod. I also enjoy a game where the entire game isn't versus the Germans, as here you can go back and forth between the Germans, Japanese, and Italians. And if you feel a little evil, you can play as them, too. Hours and hours of fun.

4 - WWF No Mercy (N64). As close to perfect as a wrestling game can get. More in-depth Create a Player, addictive special matches and career mode, and the best variety in movesets. Every other wrestling game after this has pretty much been a desire to come back to No Mercy, but that just can't happen. I also much prefer the more fluid and lively action of the wrestlers in this game, whereas in newer games they look more choppy and need dazzling camera effects to compensate.

3 - Tetris (NES). This one kind of stucks out like a sore thumb in comparison to the rest of the list, but what can I say? I love it! Even my dad, a sworn enemy of video games, would play this game regularly. Plus, sometimes I feel like I need to take a break from breaking bones and blowing people up to test some skills in stacking blocks logic and quick decisions, in a non-violent matter. Surprisingly addictive for an action and sports lover of video games.

2 - Super Mario Brothers (NES). The first video game I've ever had. If not for this game, well, I probably would have found another, but who knows if it would have given me the love for video games I have now? Seriously, Super Mario Brothers had so much to offer for introducing budding gamers. Battling dragons, jumping over pits of fire/lava, eating magical mushrooms and flowers, squishing mushroom heads and ducks with turtle shells, this game is the epitome of the out of this world adventure. If you tried hard enough, you'd even find the cloud levels and just rack up the coins, and if you REALLY tried hard, you'd get to the top of the flag on every jump. Sometimes it's worth the consecutive hours to beat this game. No, it's always worth it.

1 - Tecmo Super Bowl (NES). I love football games probably more than wrestling or war games, and this for me is the holy grail of football games. Sure, games today that take into account crowd noise, penalties, player fatigue, wind, etc. add for the realism, and that's great. However, Tecmo Super Bowl makes you feel like a real football mega star with its 100 yard bombs or touchdown runs and 60 yard field goals. Tecmo Bowl did that, too, but there are some small advances in Tecmo Super Bowl that I find to make it more enjoyable. In Tecmo Bowl, if a receiver is covered, he pretty much can never get the ball, it will always be intercepted. Also, in Tecmo Super Bowl there is a complete league, and a much better, complete season mode, including a Pro Bowl. If I had to give up all games but one, I'd take this one hands down.
