Video Game Review: Micro Machines V4

Micro Machines V4 (Playstation 2)

Back in the day (sometime in the early 1990’s) a game called Micro Machines was released for the Super Nintendo. I had known of Micro Machines before, as I used to steal them from the local grocery store, and was interested in the game. What the game was is one of the best and most fun racing games ever created and it took up many hours of my childhood gaming.

Flash forward to about a month ago when I saw that there was a new Micro Machines game being released for the Playstation 2 and became ecstatic. It was yet another outlet for me to relive my childhood.

Does the game live up to my hype? Read on and find out

For those of you who clicked to read on I must warn you up front that this game sucks. What the makers of this game did was take out almost everything that made the SNES version fun and released the biggest pile of dog crap ever.

Why do I say this? Well instead of being a fluid racing game, where you have laps that are uninterrupted, you get a game where as soon as any of your opponents fall out of view on the screen, the race restarts and you are awarded a point. Just as you are really getting in to the race, someone falls behind and then you are back at square one. To say this is frustrating would be an understatement.

The only positive I can think of is that the tracks are as I remember them. Taking everyday things like a breakfast table, a pool table, or a desk, and turning them in to race tracks was what made this game stand out in the past. However, with the new racing feature, all that fin has been stripped away.

I recommend that you stay away from this game at all costs.
