Can I ask what's up with the emphasis on ratings and all that jazz?

I agree, it is hard to write reviews about things you have loved forever. It's kind of hard to view them critically.

Yeah, it's really difficult. When I wrote this, I wanted to include at least a paragraph about what could be improved or what I don't like -- it's only fair in a review to do that, even for things that you really, really liked -- but I sat and sat and sat and still couldn't think of anything I didn't like about this book. I can find a crapload of crap I don't like in what the critics say, but... that's not the same, is it? :-)
