(this is my first one of these and it's a bit of an odd choice, but I hope you enjoy...)
The Boys From Brazil (1978)
Starring: Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Steve Guttenberg, and Uta Hagen
My fine friend, Mr. Spice, exposed me to the fine cinematic work that is
The Boys From Brazil. The basic story: what would happen if Dr. Josef Mengele learned the secrets of cloning? 94 baby Hitlers, that's what!
Some real treats exist in this film. Like a young, afroed Steve (or "Steven" as he is credited) Guttenberg and UTA HAGEN! as a crazy, imprisioned Nazi deathcamp guard. Also, Laurence Olivier is adorable, Gregory Peck is terrifying, and there's naked chicks. Most of the acting was WAY over the top, but I've come to expect that from Nazi conspiracy films.
One point of contention for me was that there was a big to-do about the baby Hitlers having blue eyes. There were many references to Mengele doing experiments in changing eye color, mostly injecting colored dyes into the iris's of subjects.
So I began to wonder...did Hitler actually HAVE blue eyes? Because were the baby Hitlers to be exact clones, which they were supposed to be as to assure that another Hitler would rise to power once more (thus beginning the Fourth Reich), then they’d have to be exact genetic matches, down to eye color. And would it really make sense for Mengle to fudge with the eye color, but leave the hair color dark (the baby Hitlers all had dark hair) when we all know TRUE Aryans are blond?
Thus, the internet hunt began. And the results were as follows:
Knight's Cross Holder SS-Sturmbannführer Lèon Degrelle, Commander of the Wallonie Division, who wrote The Enigma of Hitler, confirms that yes, his eyes were blue. He states,
"Hitler had deep blue eyes that many found bewitching, although I did not find them so".
In the poem
Blue Eyes by Eliot Weinberger, it is said, "Most Germans believed that Hitler had blue eyes, but they were brown. The official portrait photographs of high Nazi officials were often retouched to give them blue eyes and that particular stare, pure and cold as a mountain lake, as a glacier, as a cloudless sky, as the fruit of an imaginary unmixed blood." But can we really trust the subjective nature of a POET!? They’re all CRAZY! Present company included...
Then there is the theory that his eyes turned blue when
he began to worship Satan.
Or you can just go by the characteristics on the
Hitler Action Figure.
