Top 5 favourite music artists/bands right now

This list will constantly change, but I'm doin' it anyway. I can't really do an all-time favourite bands list because my musical tastes have changed to the degree that I don't really like stuff I used to like, and the stuff I now like I haven't liked for that long. Thus, this could be an all-time list in a way, because old all-time favourites aren' ( Read more... )

5. Coheed and Cambria - The definitely would have been ranked higher if not for The Warped Fiasco. Conceptual music can either be really contrived and lame, or really interesting and cool. These guys are the latter.(Side note: I am excited to read their comic, but too poor to order it on line)

4. Brand New - I agree with you, Andy, that the first album is pretty...high school. Deja is golden. This would be getting a higher ranking, but it held more worth for me last year. It's now very, very good for nostalgiac value.

3. Rise Against - They put out consistently well-informed, well played and well written music. The new album, though it's no Revolutions Per Minute, is still an album that I could listen to over and over and over again.

2. Queen - I know this isn't the newest band of life, but while rearranging my vinyl I discovered all my old Queen albums. Mostly, A Night At The Opera and I've refallen for ol' Queen Mercury. I can't get over how... good Queen is. I like when a band has a sound that doesn't carry through every song. And I love that you can always know when it's a Queen song even though they rarely sound like the last one.

1. Taking Back Sunday - While I've always really loved TBS, I think that the new album just solidified my love. I mean, since the first time I heard "you could slit my throat and with my one last dying breath I'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt" these guys have been in my top five, in varying positions. But this new album is just... rad. I can't believe I used that word, but it's so applicable. They are rad.

I just noticed, you messed up the lyric. It's his one last GASPING breath.

For Shame.
