Top 5 Wrestler Appearances in Movies
This list is inspired by all the advertising for the new The Longest Yard remake, which I probably will not see. Since wrestlers often seem to turn up in crappy movies, I haven't seen a lot of the movies that might qualify for this list. But, I've seen enough to start the conversation. I'm only including appearances in fictional movies, so no Beyond the Mat or Wrestling With Shadows mentions here. "Notable" films that included wrestlers that I haven't seen include Be Cool, Walking Tall, Man On the Moon, No Holds Barred, Ready to Rumble, Blade: Trinity, Universal Soldier: The Return, Predator, The Wrestler, Santa with Muscles, or anything with Rowdy Roddy Piper.
5. The Big Show in The Waterboy (I guess he was technically known as The Giant when he did this. Ah well. In it, Paul Wight shows his range as an actor by playing... a giant wrestler. Still, Captain Insano is better than Kevin Nash as The Russian in The Punisher, because anything that keeps Kevin Nash off of a Top Five is a good thing)
4. Jesse Ventura in The Running Man (Since I've never seen Predator, Captain Freedom will have to be my Jesse Ventura entry to the list, beating out his distinguished work in Ricochet, Demolition Man, Batman & Robin, and the legendary Major League II)
3. Hulk Hogan in Rocky III (I must've led a good life if this is the only Hogan movie I've ever seen. Yeah me! I think his Thunderlips character was epic in presentation and bwahahahaha, sorry, I can't continue...)
2. André The Giant in The Princess Bride (Ahhhh Fezik, the performance all other wrestlers will be judged by. Interesting fact: apparently André once played Bigfoot in a Six Million Dollar Man TV movie. Awesome)
1. The Rock in The Rundown (this movie is a big, dumb, action, buddy-movie that is entirely dependant on the charisma and charm of its lead. Luckily, The Rock has charm to spare, so it ended up being pretty fun. I hate this place. I hate penis eating minnows and I hate freaky fruit)
