well, its time again for another "next big thing in rock" to come
across the pond and take on north america. bloc party take inspiration
from the strokes, interpol, and franz ferdinand, and like the latter
are just as likely to make you shuffle your wallflower feet as make you
pump your devil horned fist. this album had to grow on me a bit as the
melodies arent always as immediate as you might like. the voicings are
unmistakable and the guitars would rather noodle around with single
note riffing then all out chordal rocking, but that seems to be en
vogue these days. you know, i cant help but think seeing this band live
would be a treat if for no other reason than to check out one hell of
an explosive rhythm section. if you like the new breed of rock there is
no reason you wont appreciate bloc party. the album unveils spicy new
layers with each listen, much like a bloomin' onion. 7.5/10
