bloc party~silent alarm

well, its time again for another "next big thing in rock" to come across the pond and take on north america. bloc party take inspiration from the strokes, interpol, and franz ferdinand, and like the latter are just as likely to make you shuffle your wallflower feet as make you pump your devil horned fist. this album had to grow on me a bit as the melodies arent always as immediate as you might like. the voicings are unmistakable and the guitars would rather noodle around with single note riffing then all out chordal rocking, but that seems to be en vogue these days. you know, i cant help but think seeing this band live would be a treat if for no other reason than to check out one hell of an explosive rhythm section. if you like the new breed of rock there is no reason you wont appreciate bloc party. the album unveils spicy new layers with each listen, much like a bloomin' onion. 7.5/10
