Replacement Killers, The (1998)

I didn't know until recently that the director of Training Day, Antoine Fuqua, also directed this movie. He's come a long way with the substance. The Replacement Killers is basically Action Movie Cliche Central to the Max. Which is okay sometimes, if that's what you're looking for in your movie. Starring Mira Sorvino & Chow Yun-Fat, it's a movie about an assassin who willingly does not complete a job for a mob leader, & the consequences that he suffers as a result.

Like I said, heavily cliched, but enjoyable because of Yun-Fat, who is just fucking awesome. I mean, Yun-Fat can make anything look awesome, but put a gun in his hand, fucking awesome. This was also back when Sorvino was still pretty hot, so there's an added bonus. Add in raspy-voiced Michael Rooker with a bush goatee, & you've got yourself a stylish action flick. Not going to win any awards, but perfectly acceptable as long as you ignore certain logic as is the norm in action movies. 3.5 outta 5.
