Long time since the last update. We've been living in charlotte just about 5 months now. It's been pretty good so far. We are enjoying the spread out and green urban feel, but dealing with a lot more (lot more) traffic then Buffalo, and it's more expensive to live here. I'm still happy with the choice though. We've settled in, I've gotten a job at Bank of America doing the same thing as I was doing with HSBC, and Jessica starts working her new OT job at the beginning of the year. Can't wait to start paying off the nearly 70K in student loans she accumulated during that time, lol. We've taken some time to get ourselves acclimated to the area. We are right down the street from Carowinds Amusement park, as well as the state line, and also have some nice hiking trails in a nature preserve a few miles down the road.
We are in our current apartment until the end of 2011, and we are hoping to have saved enough money by then to put a downpayment on a home. We did find a place in a town called Fort Mill, SC, that we love, it's got 4 bedrooms, over a half acre, and on a flat lot, and apparently was listed for sale on the day we got married. we've got a long way to go before we can try to buy it though, and don't expect it to be hanging around that long.
I've also come to the conclusion that aggressive drivers are far far better then absent minded ones. Drivers in Charlotte are horrendous, worse then Buffalo. The main issue is that you would think noone has ever driven here before. We've almost been hit a half dozen times, and some of the decisions we've witnessed people make is mind boggling. On top of that, about two weeks ago, as I was driving back to work on my lunch break, lo and behold, as I was getting off the highway, and driving through an intersection, a guy blew through a red light and hit my car. It had to get towed. Right now I've got a Hybrid Nissan Altima, it's OK, but I want my car back! We haven't had any visitors yet, outside of Jessica's sister and parents, who live 3 hours away, but supposedly my parents are coming down in March. I had read that West Seneca got dumped with 3 feet of snow, crazy shit. Imagine if we still lived there, we would have been right smack dab in the middle of it. Of course they had an article about how the drivers were angry because of the lack of response, but I'm sure that anyone who lives in Buffalo knows that the you never see snow plows when it snows at least until some point in the afternoon.
We've also been able to go to a Panthers game and a Bobcats game, but they lost both, lol. We've still got plenty of this area to explore, but we should have a long time to do it.
