Human again, only human again...

Edward is lying outside, in the grass, watching the clouds go by. It feels nice to be ably to really, truly relax like this, instead of having thousands of voices flitting in and out his head constantly. He sighs happily, alone with his thoughts, for once ( Read more... )

Jacob's walking around, trying to get used to being small and lanky again. He'd gotten so used to being tall and broad that he's tripped about five times throughout the day, overestimating himself. And look, there he goes again, in Edward's line of sight. Lovely.

Edward chuckles softly, "Still having trouble, Jacob? I did that earlier. I was shocked when I was out of breath from running. Would you like an apple?"

Jacob blushes a little and stands, brushing himself off and loping over to Edward, sitting next to him and smiling. "Yeah, it's really weird to not be so big anymore. Apple! Apples are good."

There's a comment there, but it's vulgar and so Edward won't make it. He offers an apple to Jacob with a soft smile -- no different than his usual smile, though perhaps less pale. "I missed regular food."

"It IS rather awesome." Jacob grins and takes the apple, laying down on the grass. "It's weird not to be able to phase, though." For as much as Jacob is loving being normal again, he does miss having the ability to change. Everything so much simpler when he's in wolf-form. And he gets to lick Edward's face without feeling bad.

"It's strange not hearing anything -- though it's a nice change, I won't lie." Edward shifts to his side so he can look at Jacob while he's talking. "I was shocked at how many things I'd missed while I was a vampire. All these different -- foods and things, I mean. And earlier..." He lowers his voice conspiratorially. "Earlier, I took a nap. I slept for the first time in almost a century."

"A nap? Really? Amazing!" Jacob grins and takes a bite out of his apple. He doesn't look at Edward, but stares straight up at the sky. He feels so small and -- stupid, and unattractive next to Edward now. It's silly, but he does. ...it's nice to know that Edward won't be hearing thoughts like that anymore.

"You know what sucks, though?"

If Edward could hear Jacob's thoughts, he'd likely disagree.

"What sucks? Aside from -- not me, anymore." A lame joke, but it was there and Edward sort of has to take it.

Which is why it's nice that Edward isn't going to be hearing his thoughts anymore.

"Haha, very funny." Jacob looks at Edward only to roll his eyes, then looks back up at the sky. "The Imprint isn't gone."

"Isn't it?" Edward raises his eyebrows in curiosity. "I'm... sorry to hear that." Though he's not sure if he is, anymore. He likes Jacob, in some strange way. Not necessarily a romantic affection, but a fondness just the same.

"You'd think it would be, right? No. The universe loves to torture me." Jacob shakes his head and looks over at Edward. He's not sure it sucks anymore either, he's definitely gotten used to it. It's nice, not to hate the person Bella chose over him. Makes it easier to hang out with Bella, definitely.

He feels awful for entertaining even the most casual, curious thoughts about Jacob. But they're there, and it's not like he's repulsed by them. It simply still seems... strange, that's all.

"Maybe... something can be arranged. I don't know. I'd have to spend more time with you first."

"'Arranged'? That sounds weird." He wrinkles his nose. "What do you mean?" It's too much to hope that he'd mean some kind of -- relationship between the three of them (which he'd thought of even before the Imprint, actually - he never liked HATING Edward so much that it made it difficult to hang out with Bella).

"Something with the three of us? I don't know. Bella loves both of us, and you -- have some sort of affection towards both Bella and I. It would make sense, wouldn't it?" He would just have to... work on thinking of Jacob as more than an odd sort of brother.

"But you don't like me." Eyebrow raise of adorable skepticism. "How would that end up working out? I highly doubt you'll ever be able to think of me as anything but a friend, and even that's pushing it. I also doubt that Bella would like being shared." Not that Jacob has thought all of this through. Really.

"I do like you -- as a friend. You've been very good to Bella, and very tolerant of me. Moreso than I would have expected from you, actually. I did have my prejudices against you, but those are mostly gone."

He sighs, rolling over onto his back, "I don't know if I'd like to share Bella, either. But I would, if it was what she wanted."
