what's your favorite christmas music? i'm thinking classy, not silly. i think for me, the ultimate song would have to be "Silver Bells," sung by (i think) Bing Crosby ( Read more... )

i've always been a sucker for "the Carol of the Bells" just because the vocal harmony is so amazing... but it is kind of simultaneously melodramatic and ridiculous.

otherwise, i'll i've got for you is "Christams Sucks" by Tom Waits and Peter Murphey, which isn't annoying and cheesy like the grandma-reindeer song, but not exactly the sort of thing you put on to feel the warm glow of the season, since it's basically Tom Waits and Peter Murphey being creepy and morbid.

it's my favorite christmas song, but i don't really do holidays ;)

yeah... TSO is cool, but the version i like best is entirely unaccompanied vocals. no idea what group recorded it, but i seem to think it's the only non-TSO version i've heard that wasn't, like, a local choir doing a live performance or something.

a quick googling reveals that the carpenters do a version, but i can't find it on limewire.
