i just had to walk out of my peru orientation meeting because i couldn't stop coughing. i haven't gotten noticeably better in the past week. i've never had spring allergies before, but i guess it's possible that i'm allergic to things here and not at home... if that's the case, i might cry. i am almost completely out of commission, and i don't ( Read more... )

Oh, there is TOTALLY pollen here. Like whoa. My car, which is normally dark blue with greenish hues, was yellowy-green for a couple years due to the pollen here (and to me being too lazy/cheap to get it washed often enough :P). Finally gave it a really good cleaning a couple months back, and people (if Aprotim counts as plural) barely recognized it.

As for the allergy issue more generally: I've had pretty bad hay fever most of my life, generally year-round, even if spring is particularly disastrous. No crazy swelling or anything, just lots and lots and lots of sneezing and endlessly runny nose and watering eyes (the latter not at all helped by my contacts). I'm fairly certain it's been more or less the same here as it was in NoVa, though if there's been any difference at all, it's been slightly worse here, even doped up on Allegra/Benadryl/etc. Now that I'm not a student anymore, I'm without insurance, and thus no nice cheap allergy meds, so the rest of the spring promises to be . . interesting. But yeah, Virginia sucks for allergies. Seriously sucks. Epic levels of suck. The final frontier of suck.

I'm done now, really.

(Also, Charlottesville seems for some reason to be the dustiest place on earth. Undoubtedly that doesn't help much.)
